About the Books
The Book form was created
because the project was originally conceived as a project for
libraries (but it will ultimately work for any organization.)
The Book sculpture, itself, was designed specifically
for Art of the Books and is produced by Fiberstock, Inc.
(fiberstock.com) a major
supplier of fiberglass animals for projects around the country.
The piece measures 31" x 20"
6" and comes with a primer finish ready to decorate. The
cost is $300 plus shipping.
There is a smaller book available
through Art of the Books which is a papier maché piece
to be used in conjunction with the large Book. It is about the
size of a regular hardback book and measures 14" x 10"
x 2". The cost of these books will be $9 plus shipping.
Both the fiberglass Book and
the Papier Maché book are handmade and require 90 days
advance ordering. Papier Maché books for Spring 2006 MUST
be ordered by December 15, 2005. See: Order Books
As previously mentioned, the
fiberglass Book was created to simplify the project
process for those who don't feel they can undertake a project
with life size animals, either because it is too big an undertaking
or because their community cannot support the sponsorship costs
and large piece auction prices.
The Book, being smaller:
1.) Can be shipped via UPS rather
than trucked to the organization and to and from the artists.
2.) Weighs less and is easier
to manage and display.
3.) Costs only about 20% of the
cost of a large animal, reducing sponsorship costs.
4.) Can be displayed inside,
thus eliminating the need for concrete bases and automotive clear-coating
which can reduce the sponsorship costs.
5.) Requires less of a time/space/materials
commitment from the artists and can eliminate the need for a
materials stipend, thus, again reducing the sponsorship costs.
6.) Can be easier to promote
and sell in smaller venues.
